Tania & Clint | Home is Where the Heart is

The ideal of happiness has always taken material form in the house, whether cottage or castle; it stands for permanency and separation from the world.
~ Simone de Beauvoir ~

Once in a while, Tania and Clint escape the big city life to come to quaint Niagara-on-the-Lake. Their most recent visit marks their first in a while, because they have been busy settling into their first home. We found it fitting to include elements of an old home from their favourite olde town. We’re so excited about their wedding this fall at one of our old favourites ;)

Kristen & Mark | An Afternoon of Fishing

Through the ages, the relationship between couples and the great outdoors has spurred the creativity of many artists; in fishing, horseback riding, or simply taking respite in the castle courtyard. With 19th century romantics, the main focus tended to vary, as seen in de Blaas’ figurative interpretation of the phrase “catch of the day” and Kaemmerer’s depiction of a couple catching supper together in the French countryside.

Our inspiration for this set came in part from these works, as well as from the bright, idyllic illustrations of American artists from the Dick-and-Jane era, and the proposal story that Kristen and Mark shared with us when we first met. While fishing together one day, Mark, a master fisherman, was having trouble landing his trophy fish. After exhausting all of his fishing expertise, he asked Kristen to try picking out the next lure from the tacklebox. To her surprise, when she peered inside, she found one that was just right – in the shape of an exquisite diamond ring. As it turns out, Mark knew exactly how he would land his trophy after all.

With a story this irrestibly cute, we couldn’t resist recreating it, and we’re so excited to see these two “tie the knot” this summer.

Silvie & Marty | Taking Flight

Happiness is a butterfly, which when pursued, is always just beyond your grasp, but which, if you will sit down quietly, may alight upon you.

Tara & Chad | Wintertime Musings

For many, winter is a time to hide away inside and wait for spring. For Tara & Chad, winter is the perfect excuse to get outside and play! Amongst all the cuddles, kisses, giggles, and decorating, there was still room for their energetic little puppies, Goobear and Kevin, to join in on some of the fun. For their session, we did something a little bit different to showcase just some of their winter delights.

Part of our delight will be ringing in 2013 at their New Year’s Ever After!

Amanda & Mike | Part Two – Paint the Town

As we mentioned in Part One of Amanda & Mike’s session, these two like to play! For Part Two of their session Amanda & Mike painted the town and each other. The excitement and energy they brought to their paint “fight” was contagious–we had so much fun shooting it and trying not to get covered in paint ourselves. :)

What better metaphor for love than a burst of colour in an otherwise gray January day?!
