Sarah and Ryan selected a special reading for their ceremony that truly resonated for us. It was a passage from the Velveteen Rabbit on how toys become real; on how love makes us real:
You become. It takes a long time. That’s why it doesn’t happen often to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get all loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don’t matter at all, because once you are Real you can’t be ugly, except to people who don’t understand …once you are Real you can’t become unreal again. It lasts for always.
It lasts for always because your memories, your sense of self, your very existence – and the meaning you attribute to all those things – is shared by your other half. You are real because your true love gives life to all that you are and aspire to be. Sarah and Ryan’s vows came straight from the heart. They had prepared notes, but they didn’t need them. In hearing each other’s sweet words, they melted into one another. So what was most sentimental for us this time, was that instead of watching two people simply being married, we were privileged to witness the culmination of their journey of becoming real together.
We just arrived home from our honeymoon and looking at these was the first thing we did….and we are so glad we did!! These are just beautiful and more than we could ever have hoped for. Thank you. :)
